Over Air Madagascar

Air Madagascar is the national airlines of Madagascar (IATA Code: MD) with their hub and headquarters at Ivato International Airport, Antananarivo, Madagascar. Originally the airline was founded in 1947 as a feeder service to connect with Air France and Transports Aériens Intercontinentaux. Then following the independence of Madagascar it became the national carrier in 1962. The 1960's and 1970's saw Air Madagascar go through a rapid expansion which included 58 domestic points, International routes to Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, Johannesburg, Rome, Munich, and the Comores. Then into the late 1970's and early 80's they further expanded services to Mauritius, Reunion Island, and Seychelles. Air Madagascar started their first service to South East Asia in October 1998 when they launched services to Singapore Change Airport, these were then suspended in 2002. The government of Madagascar wanted to privatise the airline so in 2002 Lufthansa Consulting took over as management of the airline. 2011 Air Madagascar was put on the list of air carriers banned in the European Union due to their ageing fleet of aircraft. In 2006 Air Madagascar fleet had an average age of close to 37 years so they scrapped these aircraft for ones that are around half that age. As of 2018 they have a reduced fleet of only 9 aircraft and cover only 17 destinations. They now fly again to Europe using aircraft that they lease from other airlines. In July 2018 they set up a subsidiary airline called Tsaradia which they own outright, Tsaradia operates purely domestic flights , including main cities such as Tamatave, Fort-Dauphin and Tulear, and major tourist cities of Nosy Be, Diego Suarez and Sainte-Marie.
As of summer 2020 Air Madagascar now serves 3 long haul destinations (Paris, Marseilles and Guangzhou), in addition they operate to four regional destinations: Reunion, Mauritius, Comoros and Mayotte.
